As the sky darkens, fireflies light up the night. Come learn about our official state insect and the fascinating lives they lead. Flashlights will be provided. Bring water and wear closed toe shoes.
Beginner Mushroom Identification
Event presented by Allegheny Land Trust
Join ALT staff and WPMC Identifier Julie for a mushroom hunt and ID table at Dead Man’s Hollow! This will not be a traditional guided hike. Instead, after a brief introduction at the start, attendees will be off on their own to search for fungi and slime molds to bring back to an identification table at the end. We’ll then learn about the fascinating fungi that everyone found!
Hike runs rain or shine, NO WALK INS will be permitted. Please pull through the first gravel lot and park in the second lot closer to the trails and the kiosk.
We will not be foraging on this hike or discussing edibility. Foraging for mushrooms can be risky and it is never safe to eat a wild mushroom unless an expert confirms the identity.

Full Moon Forest Bathing

Full moon forest bathing walks begin before sunset, allowing participants to experience the softening of light and sound, the changing sky, and the rising moon. As darkness falls, we shift from visual focus to subtler senses to guide our exploration.
This slow, meditative practice deepens over time and invites regular return as seasons change. Due to the contemplative pace, this class is recommended for ages 14 and up.

This is not a traditional guided hike. After an introduction, participants will search for our fungal friends to collect for a beginner friendly identification table at the end of the program.
Hike runs rain or shine. NO WALK-INS will be permitted. We will not be foraging on this hike or discussing edibility. Foraging for mushrooms can be risky and it is never safe to eat a wild mushroom unless an expert confirms the identity.

50+ Hike

Join your PGH Park Rangers for a guided hike around Pittsburgh's Parks! These hike are a slow pace and low-milage, perfect for new hikers!
Join your Pittsburgh Park Rangers for an age 50+ guided hike series featuring the City of Pittsburgh’s Regional Parks! All hikes are the first Thursday of each month lasting from 10:30AM-12PM. This hike series will focus on shorter hikes (under 2 miles) for beginner hikers. All hikes will be a slow-to-light pace with few stopping points throughout! Participants are urged to wear closed toe shoes, sunscreen, and pack a water bottle for this hike series. Registration is not required but recommended for updates and cancellations due to inclement weather. Registration for all hikes open on March 1st!
We will be hiking at a slow pace and stopping often to discuss the plants and signs of animals that we see along the way. There will be some elevation changes and some steep or rocky trails. Proper footwear is recommended!
